Hostage Chess

description Hostage Chess Overview

Hostage Chess is a chess variant created by John Leslie in 1997. When a piece is captured, it does not simply leave the game: it becomes a hostage that may later be returned to the board when the appropriate opposing captured piece is offered in exchange. This ransom mechanism adds a second layer of material management to ordinary chess tactics and changes the value of captures, checks, and exchanges.
