Wildebeest Chess

description Wildebeest Chess Overview

Wildebeest Chess is a chess variant created by R. Wayne Schmittberger in 1987. It uses an 11 by 10 board rather than the standard 8 by 8 board and adds nonstandard pieces, including the camel and the wildebeest. The wildebeest is a distinctive leaping piece that can capture the opposing king under the variant's rules, so the game changes both the geometry of movement and the usual checkmate-centered objective.
