description Portreath Overview
Portreath is a coastal village on the north coast of Cornwall, England. Its harbor, dating to the late 18th century, was built to export copper ore from the nearby Gwennap mining district and import coal for the mining industry. Today, the village is known for its beach, which attracts surfers, and the historic pier that extends into the Celtic Sea. The Portreath to Devoran tramroad, opened in 1812, was one of Cornwall's earliest mineral tramways.
