description Qalaat Najm Overview
Qalaat Najm, also written Qal'at Najm, is a castle on the right bank of the Euphrates near Manbij in Syria's Aleppo Governorate. The site may have earlier Roman origins and is recorded in Arabic sources from the early Islamic period; in the twelfth century, Nur ad-Din of the Zengid dynasty restored it, and it was later refortified under the Ayyubid ruler az-Zahir Ghazi. The surviving complex includes a glacis, a massive bent entrance, a palace-bath complex, and a mosque overlooking the river. [Qal'at Najm](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qal%27at_Najm)
