Red Wine Shrimp

Red Wine shrimp are a striking type of ornamental freshwater dwarf shrimp. They are a selectively bred variation within the *Caridina* genus, specifically associated with Taiwan Bee shrimp lines. They are highly sought after by aquarium hobbyists.

These shrimp are identified by their deep, dark wine-red pigmentation, often contrasted with pale or white markings across their bodies. The exact color distribution and intensity of the red can vary heavily among different breeding lines. High-grade specimens have a solid, opaque red color.

Because they are bred from Taiwan Bee *Caridina* lines, they require soft, slightly acidic water with a lower pH to thrive. They are generally more sensitive to water fluctuations than common hardier species like Neocaridina (Cherry shrimp). They require active buffering soils in their aquariums.

They were developed through years of selective breeding by aquarium hobbyists who isolated specific color mutations in Taiwan Bee shrimp. Breeders continuously cross them to maintain the deep, solid red coloration while preventing the genes for other colors from dominating. They share genetics with Shadow Pandas and other dark-colored Caridina.
