Taiwan Bee Shrimp

description Taiwan Bee Shrimp Overview

Taiwan Bee Shrimp is a collective aquarium-trade name for selectively bred freshwater dwarf shrimp in the Caridina lineage associated with bee shrimp. The group includes intensely patterned forms such as King Kong, Panda, and Wine Red, typically displaying sharply defined dark or red areas against white coloration. They require stable, clean, generally soft and acidic water and are more sensitive to changing conditions than many common Neocaridina shrimp. They are kept primarily by experienced ornamental-shrimp aquarists and selective breeders.

insights Ranking position

Taiwan Bee Shrimp ranks #7 of 204 in the Shrimp ranking, behind Scarlet-striped Cleaning Shrimp, ahead of Cherry Shrimp.

help Taiwan Bee Shrimp FAQ

What water parameters do Taiwan Bee Shrimp need?

Taiwan Bees generally require soft, acidic, very stable water, often maintained with remineralized reverse-osmosis water and active soil. Many keepers target a pH around the low-to-mid 6 range, but stability is more important than chasing one exact number.

Can Taiwan Bee Shrimp live with Neocaridina cherry shrimp?

They may coexist peacefully, but their preferred water differs: Taiwan Bees favor softer, more acidic conditions than most Neocaridina. A tank optimized for one group can therefore be less suitable for the other.

What do the names Panda, King Kong, and Wine Red mean?

They describe selectively bred Taiwan Bee color patterns. Panda shrimp have contrasting dark and white bands, King Kong shrimp are predominantly dark, and Wine Reds replace the dark coloration with deep red.

Why do Taiwan Bee Shrimp often fail in newly established aquariums?

They depend on stable water chemistry and graze on biofilm that takes time to develop. A mature, cycled aquarium also reduces the risk from ammonia or nitrite, both of which can quickly kill sensitive Caridina.
