Competition-caliber plates require certification to specific standards (such as the IWF color-coded calibration) and are usually steel calibration plates or competition bumper plates. Rogue does sell calibrated steel plates separately for competitive use.

Urethane is harder and more durable than virgin or recycled rubber, resisting scuffs, cuts, and odor absorption significantly better over years of heavy use. Rogue's urethane plates also maintain their dimensional accuracy longer because urethane does not compress or deform under repeated drops the way rubber bumpers can. However, urethane plates are more expensive and are generally not designed for high-drop overhead slamming the way full rubber bumper plates are.
