Santa Fe Historic District

The district is defined by the Pueblo Revival and Spanish Colonial styles, which feature flat roofs, rounded adobe walls, and exposed wooden beams called vigas. This specific aesthetic was heavily promoted in the early 20th century to boost tourism in the area.

The Santa Fe Plaza sits at the heart of the historic district and has been a central gathering place since the city's founding by Spanish colonists. It is located less than a mile from the New Mexico State Capitol building.

The district was designated a National Historic Landmark in the mid-20th century, specifically recognized for its dense concentration of traditional adobe architecture. It preserves the layout and design of the original 1609 Spanish settlement.

The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, dedicated to the legendary American modernist artist, is located within the historic district just blocks from the Plaza. Additionally, the Museum of New Mexico complex sits on nearby Museum Hill.
