description Sarmatians Overview
The Dacians were an ancient Thracian people who lived mainly in the Carpathian and lower Danube regions, including much of present-day Romania. Their political and religious center at Sarmizegetusa Regia was part of a network of fortified hill settlements. Dacian society is associated with metalworking, agriculture, warfare, and access to gold and silver resources in the Carpathians. After the Dacian Wars of 101-102 and 105-106 CE, Roman forces under Emperor Trajan captured the kingdom and annexed much of its territory as the province of Dacia.
