Schistocerca obscura, commonly called the obscure bird grasshopper, is a short-horned grasshopper in the family Acrididae and subfamily Cyrtacanthacridinae. Johann Christian Fabricius described it in 1798. The species occurs mainly in the southern and south-central United States, with records extending from Pennsylvania and Florida westward to Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Adults are long-winged and often olive green with brown forewings, a pale dorsal stripe, and dark bars on the hind femora; they inhabit fields and open woodlands.
