The Seram bandicoot is a marsupial known scientifically as Rhynchomeles prattorum and is endemic to Seram, an island in Indonesia's Maluku region. It is the only recognized species in the genus Rhynchomeles. The species was described by the zoologist Oldfield Thomas in 1920 and is regarded as threatened because its restricted island range makes it vulnerable to habitat change and other local pressures.
