Sodalite

description Sodalite Overview

Sodalite is a blue to blue-violet tectosilicate mineral in the feldspathoid group, with an ideal composition of Na4Al3Si3O12Cl. First reported in Greenland in 1811, it crystallizes in the cubic system and commonly occurs as massive material in sodium-rich igneous rocks such as nepheline syenite, rather than as large crystals. Opaque blue sodalite, often marked by white veining, is cut into cabochons, beads, inlay, and other ornamental objects. [Geology.com](https://geology.com/minerals/sodalite.shtml)
