While the full-grain leather upper is highly durable and water-resistant, it is not completely waterproof. However, the sandal is constructed with a Vibram Megagrip outsole that delivers exceptional traction on wet, slippery rocks and terrain. This combination makes it highly capable for river crossings and demanding outdoor adventures.

Because the SoleMate Adventure Sandal uses stiff, high-quality full-grain leather, the upper straps require a break-in period of roughly 5 to 10 miles to soften and conform to your foot. The Vibram Megagrip outsole, however, is flexible and comfortable right out of the box. The contoured footbed will gradually mold to the shape of your arches over the first few weeks of wear.

The SoleMate sandals are engineered for demanding outdoor adventures and offer excellent traction and a secure fit via adjustable straps. While they are perfect for stream crossings and day hikes, they lack the heavy ankle support required for multi-day backpacking with a 40-pound pack. They are best utilized as a durable, heavy-duty alternative to traditional trail shoes.

To maintain the longevity of the full-grain leather upper, you should rinse off heavy mud with cold water and let them air dry away from direct heat. Periodically applying a specialized leather conditioner will prevent the straps from drying out and cracking. Avoid using harsh chemical soaps, as these can degrade the rubber compounds in the Vibram Megagrip outsole.
