Should I visit Barcelona or Madrid on a short trip?

Barcelona offers Gaudí architecture, including the Sagrada Família, under construction since 1882, plus Mediterranean beaches. Madrid, the capital, counters with the Prado museum and a legendary late-night dining scene, so the choice comes down to modernista architecture versus classical art.

How far in advance do I need Alhambra tickets?

Book as soon as sales open, often weeks or months ahead, because timed entries to the Nasrid palaces in Granada regularly sell out. The Alhambra is Spain's most visited monument, a 13th-14th century palace-fortress from the Moorish period.

Is summer a bad time to visit southern Spain?

July and August in Andalusia are brutally hot, with Seville regularly topping 40°C, so locals and savvy travelers prefer April-June and September-October. Spring also brings Seville's Semana Santa processions and the Feria de Abril.

Is English widely spoken in Spain?

Less so than in northern Europe, though hotel and attraction staff in tourist cities usually manage. Note that in Catalonia you will see Catalan, in the Basque Country Basque, and in Galicia Galician, all co-official with Spanish.
