Stanley Reed was an American lawyer and government official who served as Solicitor General of the United States before joining the Supreme Court. President Franklin D. Roosevelt nominated him as an Associate Justice in 1938, and he remained on the Court until 1957. His career connected federal legal practice with the constitutional and administrative questions that shaped the New Deal and the later mid-century Supreme Court.
