Strzelecki Desert

description Strzelecki Desert Overview

The Strzelecki Desert is an arid region spanning parts of South Australia, Queensland, and New South Wales. Named after the Polish explorer Paul Edmund de Strzelecki, it is characterized by extensive red sand dunes, gibber plains, and intermittent salt lakes. The desert overlays the Cooper Creek basin and is traversed by the Strzelecki Track, an unpaved route historically used for moving cattle and now servicing the Moomba gas fields.
