description Tabernas Desert Overview
The Tabernas Desert is a semi-arid badlands region located in the province of Almería in southeastern Spain. Covering roughly 280 square kilometers, it is recognized as mainland Europe's only true desert, receiving less than 300 millimeters of annual rainfall. Its unique, eroded lunar landscapes made it an ideal and internationally recognized filming location for Spaghetti Westerns during the 1960s and 1970s, most notably those directed by Sergio Leone. The area is of significant geological and biological interest, hosting several rare, drought-resistant plant species.
