Taghit Oasis

The oasis is recognized for its prehistoric rock engravings, or petroglyphs, which are carved into the surrounding cliffs. These ancient artworks depict local fauna like cattle and antelopes, offering a glimpse into the region's wetter, pre-desert Neolithic past.

The town is highly recognized for its well-preserved "ksar," which is a traditional fortified village. The ksar of Taghit features high mud-brick walls that were built to protect the residents and their date palms from desert raids.

Taghit is a small Algerian oasis town situated in the Béchar Province of western Algeria. It lies directly at the foot of the towering sand dunes of the Erg Occidental dune sea.

It is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Saoura" because of its breathtaking beauty and fertile palm groves amid the harsh Saoura Valley. The stunning contrast between the yellow dunes, the lush green palms, and the red mud-brick ksar makes it a visually striking location.
