Taiping Rebellion

description Taiping Rebellion Overview

The Taiping Rebellion was a large-scale civil war in Qing China that lasted from 1850 to 1864. It was led by Hong Xiuquan, who claimed to be the younger brother of Jesus, and established the religiously inspired Taiping Heavenly Kingdom across parts of southern and central China. The Qing government eventually defeated the movement after prolonged fighting centered on Nanjing, while death estimates commonly reach about 20 million or more.
