Tapestry moth

description Tapestry moth Overview

The tapestry moth (Trichophaga tapetzella) is a moth in the family Tineidae, which includes the familiar clothes moths. It occurs over much of the world, though it is often local and uncommon. Its larvae feed on coarse animal material such as wool, fur, skins, feathers, and other debris, and they can damage textiles, furnishings, and historical tapestries, giving the species its common name. Museums and households control it through cleaning and sealed storage of animal-fiber goods.
