The Dullahan

The Dullahan is a menacing, headless rider from Celtic mythology. It is considered a foreboding figure in Irish folklore, heavily acting as a death omen for those who encounter it.

In Irish legend, the Dullahan is famously said to carry its own decapitated head under its arm while riding a horse. The head is often described as having a grotesque, glowing smile and is sometimes used as a lantern to light the rider's path.

When the Dullahan stops and calls out a specific person's name, that person is immediately doomed to die. This terrifying act is a common feature of its role as a harbinger of death in Celtic tales.

According to Irish folklore, the Dullahan is terrified of gold. Even a single gold pin or piece of jewelry is enough to drive the headless horseman away.
