Theme Hospital

Theme Hospital was developed by the iconic British game studio Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts in 1997. It was produced by Mark Webley and Peter Molyneux, known for creating simulation classics like Theme Park and Dungeon Keeper. The game is celebrated for its quirky British humor.

Theme Hospital is famous for its humorous, fictional illnesses rather than realistic medical conditions. Patients suffer from ailments like Bloaty Head, which requires popping the head and re-inflating it to the correct size, or Hairyitis and Slack Tongue. Treating these ridiculous conditions is a core part of the gameplay loop.

While the original 1997 MS-DOS and Windows 95 versions can be tricky to run natively, fans have created an open-source engine remake called CorsixTH. This project allows players to easily play Theme Hospital on modern Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. It requires the original game files, which are often sold digitally on GOG.

If patients are not cured and die, they turn into ghosts that float around the hospital, scaring other patients and lowering your reputation. To deal with this, you must hire a Handyman or a Doctor to clean up the mess before it impacts your hospital's success rate. Death is a significant penalty to your overall score.
