help Trift Bridge FAQ
Is the Trift Bridge in the Aletsch Arena?
No. It is near Gadmen and the Trift Glacier in Switzerland's canton of Bern, not in the Aletsch Arena.
How long and high is the Trift Bridge?
The present pedestrian suspension bridge is approximately 170 meters long and hangs about 100 meters above the gorge. It replaced the less accessible original bridge in 2009.
Why was the first Trift Bridge built?
The retreating Trift Glacier made the former glacier crossing toward the Swiss Alpine Club's Trift Hut impassable. A suspension bridge was therefore installed in 2004 before being replaced by the current structure.
Can visitors reach the Trift Bridge without hiking?
No, even with the Triftbahn cable car, reaching the bridge requires a mountain hike. Switzerland Tourism describes the standard route as roughly 6 kilometers with about 695 meters of ascent.
