Typhlatya monae is a small atyid shrimp adapted to subterranean freshwater and other cave-associated groundwater habitats in the Caribbean. The species was described from a well near Sardinera on Mona Island, Puerto Rico, and has also been reported from other Caribbean localities, including Barbuda and the Dominican Republic. Its body is translucent, its eyes are strongly reduced to a small pigment spot, and its carapace length reaches about 4.5 millimeters.
