Ulex europaeus

description Ulex europaeus Overview

Ulex europaeus, commonly called common gorse, is a spiny evergreen shrub in Fabaceae, the pea family, native to central and western Europe and the British Isles. It has dense green stems covered in sharp spines and bright yellow pea-like flowers, and it is characteristic of heathland and other open habitats in its native range. After introduction elsewhere, it can form dense stands and is treated as an invasive plant in many regions. The species is relevant to botany, habitat management, and invasive-plant control.
