Upper Yellowstone Falls

Upper Yellowstone Falls has a drop of approximately 109 feet (33 meters), plunging into the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. It is the less famous but still dramatic counterpart to Lower Yellowstone Falls, which drops 308 feet.

Upper Yellowstone Falls can be viewed from Uncle Tom's Trail and the Upper Falls Viewpoint, both accessible via the South Rim Drive in Yellowstone's Canyon Village area. There are also short hiking trails along both the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone that offer views of the falls.

Upper Yellowstone Falls sits on the Yellowstone River, which is the longest undammed river in the lower 48 United States. The falls are located in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, upstream from the more famous Lower Yellowstone Falls.

Swimming is extremely dangerous and not permitted near Upper Yellowstone Falls due to the powerful currents, steep cliffs, and hazardous terrain of the canyon area. Yellowstone National Park also has strict rules about entering thermal and fast-water features for visitor safety.
