USS Cyclops

description USS Cyclops Overview

USS Cyclops was a United States Navy collier used to transport bulk cargo, particularly coal, for naval operations. The ship disappeared in the Atlantic after leaving Barbados in March 1918, while carrying manganese ore and 306 crew members and passengers; neither the vessel nor confirmed wreckage has been found. Its loss remains the largest non-combat loss of life involving a single ship in United States Navy history, and the available evidence has not established a definitive cause.
