description Velvet Bolete Overview
The velvet bolete (Xerocomus subtomentosus), also called the suede bolete, is a pore-bearing fungus in the family Boletaceae. Its cap is usually olive, tan, or olive-brown and has a dry, velvety surface; the underside has yellow pores that may bruise blue, and the spore print is olive-brown. It forms ectomycorrhizal associations with living trees and is reported as edible, although it is not generally regarded as a highly prized bolete.
