Ringed Webcap

description Ringed Webcap Overview

The ringed webcap (Cortinarius caperatus), also known as the gypsy mushroom, is a gilled fungus formerly placed in the separate genus Rozites. Its brown to ochre cap may retain pale veil material, while a persistent white membranous ring on the stem is a key identification feature. It occurs in northern Europe and North America and is collected as a food mushroom in some regions, but identification requires care because it belongs to the large genus Cortinarius.
