Vetements

Vetements was founded in 2014 by Georgian designers Demna and Guram Gvasalia with a wider design collective. The label became associated with Paris-based shows and an intentionally unconventional approach to luxury clothing.

The brand is known for oversized silhouettes, deconstructed garments, hoodies, jeans, and ordinary references turned into high-fashion pieces. Its early collections deliberately challenged the idea that luxury must look traditionally refined.

Demna Gvasalia became Balenciaga’s creative director in 2015 after establishing Vetements. The two labels are separate brands, but Demna’s work at both helped popularize oversized streetwear and deconstructed tailoring.

Vetements is French for clothes or garments. The plain name fits the label’s interest in treating familiar everyday clothing as material for experimentation.
