Víctor Polay Campos is a Peruvian political militant who co-founded and led the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, commonly known as the MRTA. The Marxist-oriented armed group carried out attacks, kidnappings, and other violent operations in Peru during the country's internal conflict. Polay was captured in Lima in 1989, escaped from prison through a tunnel in 1990, and was recaptured in 1992; he was later sentenced to life imprisonment.
