Wall Brown

description Wall Brown Overview

The wall brown, Lasiommata megera, is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae and subfamily Satyrinae. It occurs across much of Europe and into parts of western Asia and North Africa, favoring warm, open habitats where bare ground, rocks, walls, or paths provide basking sites. Its orange-brown wings carry dark markings and prominent eyespots, while the larvae feed on grasses; in Britain, its distribution and abundance have declined substantially since the 1970s.
