Water Hemlock

description Water Hemlock Overview

Water hemlock is the common name for poisonous plants in the genus Cicuta, a group of wetland herbs in the carrot family, Apiaceae. These plants contain cicutoxin, a potent convulsant toxin concentrated especially in the roots, and ingestion can cause severe poisoning. Water hemlock grows in moist habitats and should not be confused with poison hemlock, which belongs to a different genus.
