West Gate Bridge

description West Gate Bridge Overview

The West Gate Bridge is a steel box-girder cable-stayed road bridge in Melbourne, Australia. It crosses the Yarra River and connects the western suburbs with areas south and east of the river, forming part of Melbourne's road network. Construction was interrupted by a major structural collapse in 1970 that killed workers, and the completed bridge opened to traffic in 1978 after substantial redesign and review.
