description White-footed dunnart Overview
The white-footed dunnart is a small carnivorous marsupial in the genus Sminthopsis, formally described in 1842. It occurs in Tasmania and parts of southeastern mainland Australia, where it inhabits forests, woodlands, heath, and other areas with protective ground cover, including locations approaching 1,000 metres in elevation. Primarily nocturnal, it feeds on insects and other small invertebrates and belongs to the dasyurid family, alongside quolls and the Tasmanian devil.
