description White-winged Scoter Overview
The White-winged Scoter is a large North American sea duck with a broad white wing panel that is conspicuous in flight. It breeds around lakes and wetlands across Alaska and western and central Canada, then winters mainly along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts and on the Great Lakes. Adult males are mostly black with a white mark near the eye and a swollen, patterned bill. The species dives for mollusks, crustaceans, and other aquatic prey.
