description Yakovlev Yak-42 Overview
The Yakovlev Yak-42 is a Soviet narrow-body passenger airliner designed for short- and medium-range routes. It is a trijet with three engines mounted at the rear of the fuselage and was developed by the Yakovlev design bureau as a successor to earlier Soviet regional and medium-range aircraft. The type entered Aeroflot service in 1980 and was used extensively on domestic routes in the Soviet Union and later in other countries. Its engines were Lotarev D-36 turbofans, and its design includes a high-mounted tailplane above the engine nacelles.
