Yellow-necked Caterpillar Moth

description Yellow-necked Caterpillar Moth Overview

The Yellow-necked Caterpillar Moth (Datana ministra) is a North American notodontid moth whose larvae feed in groups on the leaves of deciduous trees and shrubs. Mature caterpillars have a yellow or orange band behind the head and dark longitudinal stripes, while the adult is a brown moth with a relatively plain appearance. Host plants include oaks, hickories, walnuts, and other hardwoods, so heavy larval infestations can cause substantial defoliation.
