description John Halas Overview

John Halas was a Hungarian-British animator and film director who co-founded Halas and Batchelor, one of the largest and most influential animation studios in the United Kingdom. Born in Budapest, he moved to Britain in the late 1930s with his wife and collaborator Joy Batchelor. The studio is best known for producing "Animal Farm" in 1954, which was the first British animated feature film and an adaptation of George Orwell's novel. Halas also served as the president of the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA).
