description Derby Italiano Overview
The Derby Italiano is a Group 2 flat horse race held annually at Capannelle Racecourse in Rome for three-year-old thoroughbreds, first established in 1881. Run over a distance of 2,200 meters (approximately 1 mile 3 furlongs) on turf, the race was downgraded from Group 1 to Group 2 status in 2015. Notable winners include Botticelli (1968), whom Italian racing authorities named their Horse of the Century, and European champions Tony Bin (1988) and White Muzzle (1993).
