Maximin Grünhaus (Von Schubert)

Maximin Grünhaus owns three monopole (exclusively held) single vineyards in the Ruwer Valley: Abtsberg, Herrenberg, and Bruderberg, each with distinct soil profiles and microclimates. Abtsberg, the steepest and most celebrated of the three, produces the estate's most refined and age-worthy Rieslings from pure blue Devonian slate.

Maximin Grünhaus is located in Mertloch in the Ruwer Valley, a tributary of the Mosel River, which is itself a sub-region of the broader Mosel winegrowing area in western Germany. The Ruwer is known for producing some of the most delicately structured and acid-driven Rieslings in all of Germany, and Grünhaus is its most prominent estate.

Maximin Grünhaus has monastic winemaking origins dating to at least the 9th century, when the estate's vineyards were cultivated by the Abbey of St. Maximin, one of the oldest Benedictine monasteries in the Rhineland. The Von Schubert family acquired the property in 1882 and has owned and operated it continuously for five generations since.

Maximin Grünhaus is managed by Dr. Carl von Schubert, the fifth generation of his family to run the estate since they acquired it in 1882. Under his leadership, the estate has maintained its focus on single-vineyard Rieslings from the Abtsberg, Herrenberg, and Bruderberg monopoles, while also gaining recognition for its Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder) and Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder).
