Château Lafleur

Château Lafleur has an unusual vineyard composition for the Pomerol appellation, planted to roughly equal parts Merlot and Bouchet. Bouchet is the local historical name for Cabernet Franc in the Right Bank region. This even split contributes significantly to the wine's intense structure, savory spices, and aromatic complexity.

While both are highly sought-after neighbors on the Pomerol plateau, Château Lafleur is often considered more structured and spiced due to its high proportion of Cabernet Franc. Pétrus is overwhelmingly Merlot-dominant, known for its sheer richness, power, and velvet texture. Collectors prize Lafleur for its distinctive savory, earthy, and floral characteristics.

Château Lafleur produces incredibly robust wines that demand significant time in the cellar to soften and develop tertiary aromas. Top vintages typically require 15 to 20 years of aging before they begin to show their true potential. Well-stored bottles from legendary vintages like 1945, 1961, or 1982 are still known to drink beautifully today.

Château Lafleur remains a true family-owned estate and has never been acquired by large corporations or luxury conglomerates. It is currently managed by Sylvie and Jacques Guinaudeau, who are direct descendants of the original owners. They took over the day-to-day operations from Henri Greloud in the mid-1980s.
