Nanimarquina Losanges Rug

The Losanges Rug was designed by the acclaimed French designer brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. They created the floor covering for the Spanish rug brand Nanimarquina, which is known for collaborating with prominent contemporary designers. The design was introduced to the market in 2010.

As the name suggests (Losanges is French for rhombus or lozenge), the rug features a complex geometric rhombus pattern. The Bouroullec brothers designed it to have a slightly irregular, organic feel despite its rigid geometric foundation. The pattern is achieved through a careful, gradated mix of twelve distinct colors.

The rug is woven from hand-spun Afghan wool, which gives it a thick, plush texture and natural durability. The wool is carefully dyed using traditional methods before being sent to the looms. This use of natural, high-quality fibers is a hallmark of Nanimarquina's commitment to artisanal production.

The rug is produced using traditional hand-knotting techniques by skilled artisans in India. The hand-knotting process allows for the intricate detail and color variation required by the complex rhombus design. Because it is entirely handmade, each Losanges rug features slight, unique variations that make it one-of-a-kind.
