Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve

The unfinished palace complex and parklands were commissioned by Catherine the Great in the late 18th century. It was intended to be a grand imperial residence located near Moscow.

Catherine the Great eventually lost interest in the project and halted construction before the main palace was ever fully completed. It remained an overgrown ruin for over two centuries before being partially restored in the modern era.

The architecture of Tsaritsyno showcases an eclectic style often described as Russian Gothic. The red brick and white stone facades give the buildings a distinctive, fairy-tale appearance that stands out from typical classical palaces.

Today, visitors can explore the beautifully restored palace interiors, the expansive historic landscape design, and the parklands. The reserve frequently hosts art exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year.
