Carrera's Chess is a historical chess variant invented by Italian author Pietro Carrera in 1617. It is played on an expanded 10x8 board and introduced two new pieces, the champion and the centaur, to add complexity beyond standard chess. The variant was an early experiment in expanding chess to reduce draws and remains of interest to chess historians and enthusiasts of large-board chess.
