description Ping River Overview

The Ping River is a major watercourse in Southeast Asia that flows approximately 590 kilometers through northern Thailand. Originating in the mountainous highlands of the Chiang Mai province, it travels southward through the densely populated Chiang Mai valley. The Ping is historically and geographically significant as one of the primary tributaries that eventually merge to form the Chao Phraya, Thailand's principal river system.
