Discoteuthis discus

description Discoteuthis discus Overview

Discoteuthis discus is a little-known deep-sea squid in the family Cycloteuthidae, a small family it shares with the genus Cycloteuthis. Specimens have been recorded mainly in the Atlantic Ocean, where they have been taken in midwater at bathypelagic depths. Its defining feature is a series of large, disc-shaped suckers on the tentacular clubs, from which the genus takes its name. Because specimens are scarce, details of its feeding, reproduction, and full geographic range remain poorly documented.
