Alpha Mensae is a main-sequence star located approximately 33 light-years from Earth in the southern constellation of Mensa. With an apparent visual magnitude of roughly 5.1, it is technically the brightest star in its constellation, though it remains barely visible to the naked eye and requires dark skies. Because Mensa is situated deep in the southern celestial hemisphere, Alpha Mensae cannot be observed from most mid-latitude locations in the Northern Hemisphere.
