Private White V.C. The Moleskin Bomber

The jacket and the brand take their name from Private Christopher Wynes, a heroic World War I soldier who served in the Manchester Regiment. He was awarded the prestigious Victoria Cross for his immense bravery during the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917. The bomber jacket is a contemporary homage to the heavy military uniform he historically wore.

As the name implies, this jacket is constructed entirely from premium, heavy-weight cotton moleskin. Moleskin is a densely woven fabric that is brushed to create an incredibly soft, suede-like finish on the outside. It provides excellent wind resistance and durability, mimicking the tough materials used in early 20th-century aviation and military gear.

The jacket is entirely designed and manufactured in England, specifically utilizing the historic factory in Manchester that gave the brand its roots. Private White V.C. prides itself on keeping the entire supply chain local to support traditional British manufacturing. Every garment is hand-crafted by skilled artisans in the same factory originally built in the 1930s.

While the heavy-weight cotton moleskin provides excellent wind-blocking capabilities, the bomber is not heavily insulated with down or synthetic fill. It is best described as a durable mid-layer or an autumn/spring jacket, intended to be worn over sweaters in cold weather. The thick collar and ribbed cuffs help retain body heat, but it is not designed for extreme sub-zero winters.
