description Ctesiphon Arch Overview
The Ctesiphon Arch, also called Taq Kasra or Taq-i Kisra, is the surviving vaulted hall of a Sasanian palace at Ctesiphon in present-day Iraq. Its large brick iwan is one of the most recognizable remains of the ancient imperial capital and illustrates the use of monumental vaulted construction in Sasanian architecture. The exact date of construction is debated, with proposals ranging from the reign of Shapur I to the period of Khosrow I in the sixth century.
